NEW Planning for Practice Success™ Workbook

X-ray Equipment for Sale
Emotional Component of Chiropractic
Your new MANTRA:  Systems and Processes

Speaking of dividing a large task into small jobs…I just sent the new Startup SuccessPlan™ Workbook and Timeline to the printer.  As soon as it’s printed (in a couple of weeks), you will receive the book when you order Planning for Practice Success™.  The new workbook takes you through 11 modules which describe the tasks you need to complete to prepare your business plan and start into practice. I also have set up a Resource Page with online links to help you.  I’ll let you know when the new workbook is available.

X-ray Equipment for Sale.  A new grad who bought an office has some x-ray equipment for sale – his information is at the end of this newsletter.  (He’s in Garner, Iowa, and I’m sure you could work out the details of delivery.)

The Emotional Component of Chiropractic.  I recently read an excellent blog article about this subject.  Although it is about dentistry, it is very important for chiropractors too.  The article discusses how to get people to sign on as patients by relating to them in an authentic, caring way.  Some people describe this as Emotional Intelligence or Emotional IQ.  You may have heard me say this before, but I believe there are three essential characteristics to a successful practice:  Excellent technical capability (ability to provide great chiropractic care), excellent business skills (ability to manage your practice), and excellent communication skills (ability to relate to people).  You must have all three, but the most important is your ability to communicate.  Here is the link:  http://mark4blog.typepad.com/codiscovery/2007/04/understanding_t.html .  I’m writing about this in my next “Leading Chiropractic” article, and I am putting some communication skills and Emotional Intelligence quizzes on my website.  Go to the home page (www.dcpracticesuccess.com) for the link to the quizzes.

Your new Mantra:  Systems and Processes.  A mantra is supposed to be a phrase you repeat over and over to get it into your mind.  I’d like to suggest that you work on this mantra as you start your practice:  “Systems and Processes for Success.”.  Case in point:  I know of a doctor who has been in practice for many years.  He sees 350 patients a week (over 1200 patients a month), yet he charges only $10 a visit and doesn’t collect the money.  His office is a disorganized mess.  He’ll be lucky to be in business in two years.  If he had set up the proper systems and processes, he could have been retired years ago.  As I said the item above – business skills are essential for successful practice.  Set up your business and financial systems, if you want to keep all that money you’re making.
