New SCORE online class – Can you afford to start your business?
Did you apply for the phone excise tax refund?
GREAT MOTIVATIONAL WEBSITE

How do you organize for success?  I have to first acknowledge that I took this idea from Dr. Mark Cochran, a chiropractor in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  If you want to see what he says about this subject, go to his blog:  http://doctormarkshealthythoughts.blogspot.com/

So what does this statement have to do with your success in startup?  I believe it relates to the subject of FOCUS.  If you want to start successfully, you must keep your focus on the essentials.  For example, it’s easy to get distracted looking at office furniture on the Internet, but first you need to be working on writing your business plan and getting your loan.

The best advice I ever received about being organized for success is this:  At the end of each day, write down the three most important things you must accomplish the next day.  Then, when you get up, don’t do anything else until you’ve accomplished those.  Only then can you look at your email (biggest time-waster ever).  If getting your walk or run in is one of those three things, that’s great.  Just make sure you accomplish those before you do anything else.  Those three things don’t have to be huge; you don’t have to write your entire business plan in a day.  But do set aside time each day to work on your plan until it’s done.

To help with the huge organizational task of getting your practice started, I have created the Startup SuccessPlan workbook.  It helps you work through the startup tasks in a logical way, one by one.  The workbook is now part of the package you receive when you order Planning for Practice Success.  Create your successful practice quickly and more efficiently than you imagined with the book and workbook, the business plan template and spreadsheets.  Everything you need is at your fingertips.

New SCORE online class.  I ran through this one and found it pretty good, although it’s very generic and short on details you may need.  It takes you through the process of setting out the costs and expenses for your new practice, including a calculation of working capital.   http://www.tsbc.com/sbo/score/module.aspx?mid=103&cid=1

Information on Phone Excise Tax Refund.  If you have a non-cell phone and you didn’t yet apply for the one-time excise tax refund, there’s still time.  Go to this IRS link for more information:  http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=173222,00.html

GREAT MOTIVATIONAL WEBSITE.  If you’re thinking about giving up, or about not starting, check this website:  http://www.des.emory.edu/mfp/efficacynotgiveup.html
The motivational stories and quotes were put together by someone at Emory University.  Make this a “favorite” site, to go back to when you need some encouragement.
