"You've got to make a conscious choice every day to shed the old - whatever 'the old' means for you."  Sarah Ban Breathnach

In this issue:

Creating a personal mission statement; finding your core values
Searching for a domain name?
A business plan for practice purchase

Creating a personal mission statement.  E-Myth author Michael Gerber says your first step in creating your practice must be to decide what it is you want for your life.  One way to do that is to create a personal mission statement.   To start this process, check out this website:  http://www.quintcareers.com/creating_personal_mission_statements.html
The discussion of how to identify core values is pretty superficial.  If you don’t know what a core value is, this article won’t help….

But this article will:  http://www.ethicalleadership.org/Publications/Core%20Values%20Assessment.pdf
This PDF contains a very simple values focusing exercise.  I found it very powerful; it also contains a discussion of the importance of the exercise and why you need core values.  As a matter of fact, stop and do it right now.  Let me know what you think.

Creating a domain name.  If you’re in the process of deciding on a name for your practice, you might want to look at this webpage:  http://www.lifehack.org/articles/technology/how-to-brainstorm-domain-names.html

The page gives you suggestions for creating domain names; these suggestions would also work for practice names.

A business plan for practice purchase.  Someone asked recently, “What’s the difference in your business plan if you’re buying a practice.   If you’re considering buying a practice, email me (jean@dcpracticesuccess.com ) and ask for the practice purchase summary.  I’ll send it right out to you.  For more detailed information on negotiations and other practice purchase tasks, buy Buying a Practice. The book comes with a business plan template and the same worksheet as Planning for Practice Success (www.dcpracticesuccess.com)
